Exhibition Statement:
This is an exhibition co-curated by 8 female photographers from countries including France, China, Germany, Romania, Spain, Italy, Ukraine and Australia.
Inclusion, connection, awareness… for disconnection of masculinity and feminity being related to gender to embrace an understanding that it is present in all genders or actually achieving a deletion of it, as we are just human.
Role / Becoming Daomadan, Video Installation, 2021
This video deconstructs the making of the Daomadan role while questioning whether heroism—linguistically tied to masculinity in Chinese—can exist outside gender norms.
Through blood-red handwritten text overlays, it challenges how femininity is praised, policed, or dismissed based on appearance and behavior.
Daomadan, Photography and Mix Material Installation, 2021
This work explores the construction of masculinity in women, questioning what defines a “masculine woman”—particularly in contexts where strength, concealment, and performance intersect.
By juxtaposing the elements, the work questions where the performance ends and embodiment begins—what is worn, what is concealed, and what must be compromised to be seen as strong.
